Presenting, my contribution to Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint retailers "Color of the Month" Typewriter!
This little mirrored dresser had seen some hard times by the time I found her. Like a great upcycler, her maker had sawed off pieces of a broom handle for her knobs. At some point, someone had given her a coat of creamy white. A much younger owner had added their own touch with lots of stickers!
Cyril and Marjorie
Something about the sturdy and plain way she was made reminded me of the furniture my Grandpa Cyril made for my Grandma Marjorie. Grandpa didn’t go in much for frills and his hand built furniture reflected that - sturdy and plain. Here’s a great pic of Marjorie and Cyril before they were married in 1929.
I just have to share two of my favourite pictures of my grandparents. After finding a piece of moss that looked like a moustache, Grandma and Grandpa posed for some candid shots wearing my my Uncle Barrie’s leather jacket and motorcycle glasses. My uncle was a pretty cool dude. It was 1959 and he was rocking the black leather jacket and those cool sunglasses! Very Marlon Brando.
The dresser drawer fronts were pretty roughed up so I podgied on some old sheet music I had around.
I picked the cream crackle knobs from my inventory. Typewriter seemed a perfect choice for the piece. The name of the colour is very reminiscent of the era she was likely made.
