TV, Toys and Liquor

Love the chippy!

Love the chippy!

I think we all had one of these TV cabinets in our homes. This one was my son's and it came in a with his bedroom set. By the time he moved out, he had already moved on to a flat screen TV, so guess who inherited the TV Cabinet? Yup. Momma.

I turned the drawers into toy storage for the grandkids.  The dish set, the toy pots and pans and the lincoln logs have been the three favourites over the years.

One day, I'd had it. I was sick of looking at the orangey pine! It so didn't go with my decor! Out came the Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint in Dried Lavender. I painted right in the living room, and the whole thing was done in an afternoon. Quick and easy!

Chippy Goodness

As the paint dried, I began to get the coveted chippy goodness! I used a smooth plastic scrapper to rub off the flakes. When I was happy with the coverage, I finished the entire piece with Miss Mustard Seed's Hemp Oil. It really brings out the beautiful depth of the Dried Lavender colour, don't you think?

After

I created a liquor cabinet in the top section. The new rule is you can't have both sections open at the same time - haha!

Miss Mustard Seed's Colour of the Month - Typewriter

Presenting, my contribution to Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint retailers "Color of the Month" Typewriter!

This little mirrored dresser had seen some hard times by the time I found her. Like a great upcycler, her maker had sawed off pieces of a broom handle for her knobs. At some point, someone had given her a coat of creamy white. A much younger owner had added their own touch with lots of stickers!

Cyril and Marjorie

Something about the sturdy and plain way she was made reminded me of the furniture my Grandpa Cyril made for my Grandma Marjorie. Grandpa didn’t go in much for frills and his hand built furniture reflected that - sturdy and plain. Here’s a great pic of Marjorie and Cyril before they were married in 1929.

I just have to share two of my favourite pictures of my grandparents. After finding a piece of moss that looked like a moustache, Grandma and Grandpa posed for some candid shots wearing my my Uncle Barrie’s leather jacket and motorcycle glasses. My uncle was a pretty cool dude. It was 1959 and he was rocking the black leather jacket and those cool sunglasses! Very Marlon Brando.

Creating

The dresser drawer fronts were pretty roughed up so I podgied on some old sheet music I had around.

I picked the cream crackle knobs from my inventory. Typewriter seemed a perfect choice for the piece. The name of the colour is very reminiscent of the era she was likely made.
